A Magazine Curated By

Started in 2004, A Magazine Curated By is a Belgian glossy print publication that allows a different international fashion designer, group or house to guest curate each month’s magazine. The results are stunning and far-reaching. For this month’s issue #9, New York’s women’s design duo Proenza Schouler took the reins and put angelic indie Chloe Sevigny on the cover.

A Magazine Curated By also  just began a blog to coincide with the magazine, and they offer a fully scrollable electronic version of the magazine.

Radioactive Flesh’s Vintage Studded Jackets

This man is having his 15 minutes of fashion fame. Karin Nelson and his amazing refurbished hand-studded vintage leather and jean jackets and vests were featured in this month’s V Magazine and in the New York Times Style Section.

We adore him because he breathes new life into fantastic vintage clothing and gives it a very modern hard-edge Harley Davidson motorcycle crew look. Pair one with a ribbed tank top or butter soft vintage tee, your favorite pair of cut-offs shorts and boots or sex kitten heels. Both will look great. Fellas, follow the same recipie and don your coolest kicks or boots.

Chanel Movie Still

This dreamy still above is from a small film clip made in part with an amazing designer but I cannot remember who…ahhh…I will find it and include it but below is a clip with the serene Audrey Tautou starring as Coco avant Chanel (Coco before Chanel), a film that came out recently (as far as I can tell) about Coco’s life from her start as a seamstress to her renowned fame as one of the leading couture houses in the history of fashion. My grandmother only wore Chanel No. 5 perfume. There is no substitute for its classic scent.

We ♥ Fashion Films

Ahhh. Nothing like a double whammy feature of fashion documentary films. After hearing many rave reviews, the boyfriend and I treated ourselves to Valentino : The Last Emperor last week. It is a beautiful movie, one part reality television (the cameras follow Valentino, his partner and crew around for many months – real moments ensue) and one part fairy fashion tale displaying the extravagant lifestyle we all associate with mega successful European couture designers. The film creschendos in Rome with a fete fit for a king to celebrate Valentino’s 45th year of crafting stunning dresses and strutting down runways.

Unzipped and Marc Jacobs & Louis Vuitton are two fashion documentaries that came out several years ago and profile some of most celebrated designers. Intern Rose and I are stocking up on Kettle Corn and paying a visit to Blockbuster later this week.

Iconic Friday | Lace!

Many apologies we’re late with last week’s Iconic Friday posting. Eeeek. The holiday weekend was upon us and we dipped out of the office a bit early to catch bbq’s with friends and family.  Hope your 4th was sparkler-spectacular!

Lace has been part of fahion’s history as far back as the 1400’s.  Lace’s original birthplace is generally considered to be in Itlay and then spread throughout Europe during the 15th and 16th centuries. First woven with linen, gold, silver and silk threads, now cotton is widely used. Different lace patterns were used to identify religious and community heritages and today, lace shows its pretty face by continuing to pop up season after season on the high-fashion runways taking on shapes in accessories, boots and all forms of clothing. Above is a smattering of photos pilfered from designers like Miu Miu and Dolce & Gabbana as well as lower cost items from smaller boutiques and chains like Forever 21.  Enjoy!

DSquared | Spring 2010

Happy Thursday everybody! The sun is shining here in Portland and it looks to be an amazing day. Picked up my drink du jour at Sheridan’s Fruit Company this morning – a vanilla latte. The girls behind the bar and I have a good relationship. I smile and place my order, they walk to find me wandering the food aisles to give me said drink. It’s beautiful. Remind me to bring those girls some hand-picked backyard flowers.

Going to a fashion show this evening downtown with a halftime performance by our very own Oregon Ballet Theatre. Free food and drinks before the first walk. Bringing Intern Rose with me!

It’s my folks’ 31st anniversary today! Aww. I love them. They love each other. To celebrate, they’re buying a new eco-friendly refrigerator. Our old one has served its cold purpose for yeeeeeeeears. It’s time to upgrade. I think we’re going to spring for a fancy dinner out at Peruvian sweetheart restaurant Andina tonight, pre-fashion show. What a grand day. Lovely.

Here’re the pics for the day, with credit to DSquared, a super fun men’s line. I adore the Boy Scout / Camping Outdoorsy / Nerdy look complete with patched oxfords, distressed Levis, galoshes, printed skittle colored hoodies, plaid button-ups, skinny ties, baseball caps and the essential black-rimmed eye glasses.

I’ve put some of our own Monster Vintage vault goodies and their corresponding item numbers below the runway shots. And look out for a uploaded flurry of perfectly worn-in original Levi’s 501s on our site soon!!! Amber and I went through a huge stack of them this week and they’re delicious. Enjoy!

In honor of MJ

From the Monster Vintage vault:

Niiice. Vintage athletic shorts and Nike lows.

Item # 11139

All the single fellas. Tweed dinner vests, pencil pants and grown-up loafers.

LV and Madge, second round KO. The Spring campaign went so smashingly well that they immediately decided to snap more photos for the Louis Vuitton Fall spread. She looks eerily fresh faced and air brushed but the concepts and styling is gorgeous.

A NYC street sign from my visit earlier this year.

A Monster Vintage letterman’s jacket. I like the Halloween colorway.

An Angie / Illababy heel collaboration. These girls are fantastic and as of late, have been revamping new and vintage shoes with scalloped leather and other trinkets.

The BF stopped by this AM for iced vanilla lattes, cream cheese pesto bagels and $1 scratch lotto tickets. Suffice to say, neither one of us will be moving into a 5th Ave. loft space just yet.
